Hamilton Permaculture Trust
The Hamilton Permaculture Trust has been developed to provide education and opportunities for people to learn about methods of permaculture and organic gardening.
We have developed the Sustainable Backyard Garden at the Hamilton Gardens, a demonstration of urban permaculture, complete with fruit trees, chicken tractor, solar power and aquaculture. This has been designed, built and maintained entirely by volunteers (new faces always welcome!)
In addition, we are available to run training courses with other community groups and assist other groups in developing their own community gardens.
What is Permaculture?
* Permaculture is fundamentally about reducing waste and using the resources that we have in the most efficient and effective way possible.
* It is a system of design for living more sustainably, centered around thinking and observation, ecology and geography.
* Permaculture design is based on observations of ecosystems and how they function, then mimicking patterns found in nature to create a 'cultivated ecology' of plants, animals and structures.
Permaculture is about taking care of the earth, it's people and fair share of resources.
By bringing food production back into the city and taking responsibility for our actions we can make a substantial difference to the health of our environment and ourselves.

The Trust is always looking for volunteers willing to play a part in developing and supporting our projects.
Help is needed and valued in community gardens and The Art of The Good Life Expo, held in Hamilton Gardens in the last weekend of February.
The Sustainable Backyard provides an excellent opportunity to learn about growing your own food, composting and life in the garden. Excellent signage explains systems.
